Can We Trust God To Give Us What We Desire?

A few weeks ago, my daughter had to be hospitalized for a severe case of dehydration after coming down with the common stomach bug. It was a rare case of extreme dehydration that came on fairly quickly. As I stayed home on Saturday evening with the other three children, my wife took our youngest daughter Kalli to the hospital. We expected her to receive fluids and then be released. However, her case of dehydration was so bad, her blood work revealed some problems that had to be addressed quickly — by specialists. During this time at home, I had sent texts to my close friends, posted privately to our church family, and finally I posted an update and prayer request on Facebook to a broader audience. Later that evening, I received an e-mail through Facebook. Part of that e-mail reads:

Why doesn’t God just show himself?

Yet there are many Christians who believe that. Personally I am disinclined to accept this view primarily because there is not a shred of evidence for it from scripture. Now this is by no means false doctrine. But it may keep them single all their life. Of course, there is nothing wrong with remaining single — if that is what you want. How to find a husband or wife – the Biblical Precedent Adam was the only person who ever just woke up and saw the perfect woman next to him.

Fornication is generally consensual sexual intercourse between two people not married to each other. When one of the partners to consensual sexual intercourse is a married person, it may be described as adultery.. For many people, the term carries an overtone of moral or religious disapproval, but the significance of sexual acts to which the term is applied varies between religions, societies.

Covenant theology Reformed theologians use the concept of covenant to describe the way God enters fellowship with people in history. The terms of the covenant are that God provides a blessed life in the garden on condition that Adam and Eve obey God’s law perfectly. Because Adam and Eve broke the covenant by eating the forbidden fruit , they became subject to death and were banished from the garden. This sin was passed down to all mankind because all people are said to be in Adam as a covenantal or “federal” head.

Federal theologians usually infer that Adam and Eve would have gained immortality had they obeyed perfectly. In it, God graciously offers salvation from death on condition of faith in God. This covenant is administered in different ways throughout the Old and New Testaments, but retains the substance of being free of a requirement of perfect obedience. Barth saw the covenant of works as disconnected from Christ and the gospel, and rejected the idea that God works with people in this way.

Instead, Barth argued that God always interacts with people under the covenant of grace, and that the covenant of grace is free of all conditions whatsoever. Barth’s theology and that which follows him has been called “monocovenantal” as opposed to the “bi-covenantal” scheme of classical federal theology.

Relationships and Dating in the Bible. Does the Bible say anything about dating? No, but it does describe relationships. If “dating” is defined as two single friends of the opposite sex doing things together for fun without any attraction or romantic desire or intimacy involved at all, there is no issue to discuss regarding dating.

Thus, using common language, the absent spouse is properly referred to as “ex” or “former”. If there is no Decree of Nullity, the other person is still a spouse even if common life has ended. I have heard people say that they were not equally yoked with someone because of a different upbringing, decision making process, beliefs, finances, education, location and even appearance. That stuff has nothing to do with being equally yoked! A relationship with another person could be a marriage. If two people go to church together that does not mean that they are equally yoked. If one person goes to one church and the other person goes to another church, can they still be equally yoked?

If one person goes to church and the other person does not go to church can they still be equally yoked? Both people have to be Christians. Being equally yoked does not apply to unbelievers. Reading the bible together does not make you equally yoked but we are getting warmer! Being in love does not mean that you are equally yoked. Being married does not mean that you are equally yoked. Having a great friendship does not mean that you are equally yoked.

As we would expect, Bart believes the Testimonium is genuine, with the typical Christian interpolations. At this time there appeared Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one should call him a man. For he was a doer of startling deeds, a teacher of people who receive the truth with pleasure. And he gained a following both among many Jews and among many of Greek origin. He was the messiah. And when Pilate, because of an accusation made by the leading men among us, condemned him to the cross, those who had loved him previously did not cease to do so.

For he appeared to them on the third day, living again, just as the divine prophets had spoken of these and countless other wondrous things about him. And up until this very day the tribe of Christians, named after him, has not died out. After citing the passage, Ehrman 60 says: The problems with this passage should be obvious to anyone with even a casual knowledge of Josephus…. He was thoroughly and ineluctably Jewish and certainly never converted to be a follower of Jesus.

But this passage contains comments that only a Christian would make:

The recent tragedy at the Boston Marathon certainly brings this question to the minds of many people. If God really loves us, why does He allow us to suffer? Why does He permit terrorism, child abuse and natural disasters to occur? And, quite frankly, understanding them can often make the difference between moving closer to the Lord or turning our backs on Him.

Christian belief states that the name of God is not a human invention, but has divine origin and is based on divine revelation.
